This guitar was finished in 2011 by Thomasville, NC builder Aaron Morris. I was looking for a guitar that would sound richly acoustic in large sound systems. This small bodied guitar has a very even tone and a great neck. (And it fits in the overhead luggage compartments). Aaron installed an L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup which seems to capture the finely balanced tone of this small bodied guitar.
This is a custom made 5 string Deering Banjo that I designed for a specific sound I wanted. It has a 4″ deep pot and a wooden tone ring. This gives it a bright but mellow, woody sound, perfect for playing my style of clawhammer banjo.
The signatures on the inside are from some of my banjo heroes that I have worked with over the years: Doc Watson, Grandpa Jones, Pete Seeger, Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Tommy Jarrell, Roy Acuff, Earl Scruggs, Wade Mainer and John Hartford.
On the road I carry a National Resorocket guitar built in 2004. This is a newer model using some of the best ideas from the National guitars from the 1920s and 30s. It is a steel body, single cone guitar. The sound is a great blend of beauty and bite. http://www.nationalguitars.com/
